The Government of India set up the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) under the Ministry of Power to promote energy conservation and efficiency. BEE has IS 374:2019 standard that the ceiling fans must meet to qualify for Star Rating.
This is applicable to ceiling fans in India consisting of squirrel cage induction motor(capacitor type) or Brushless dc (BLDC) motor, with/without remote control device/speed regulators.

What are the Conditions for Getting Good Star Rating for Ceiling Fans
The product must meet the parameters outlined by BEE to qualify for IS 374:2019 standards for the fan star rating. The eligibility specifications for each parameter are detailed in the table below.

Procedure to apply for BEE IS 374:2019 Star Rating
As a fan manufacturer, you must follow the procedure laid out by BEE to get star ratings for the fans you manufacture. This applies to fans you manufacture in your manufacturing unit set up in India and to ceiling fans that you import from other countries. Every model of ceiling fan sold under your brand label must be checked by the BEE authorities for safety.

Step 1 – Enroll under BEE’s Star Labeling Program.
Step 2 – Apply for registration of a new product category/model on the official website of BEE.
Step 3 – Attach a copy of these documents along with your application – Trademark, factory details and product information.
Step 4 – Pay an application fee of Rs.2,000.
Step 5 – Pay the labelling fee of Re.1 to affix labels. Labelling fees must be paid individually for each ceiling fan model you register online for a star rating.
Step 6 – BEE or any of its authorized agencies will pick up product samples for testing.
Step 7 – The authorities test ceiling fan samples in a NABL (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories) lab.
Step 8 – The test results are sent to the concerned department at BEE.
Step 9 – If the product is approved for BEE Star Rating, the product is given a BEE certificate within 40 business days.
